The tower setting was okay, but lacked any real excitement and mystery, and yet again it had the same issue of players getting stuck across the map and having to traverse a single continuous loop just to arrive somewhere else. I think the main problem lie in that it was just a bit boring. There wasn’t much inherently wrong with Die Rise it was certainly a unique map. When in contest with the other map Black Ops 1 gives you from the start, there is no surprise this one was hardly played. Whilst the PaP wasn’t too hard to reach, the map was still a real handful, and the number of tight spaces and clutter produced a rather disappointing number of invisible walls and obstacles that could quite easily screw you over. He was fast, difficult to kill and incredibly annoying, destroying a lot of hard work in an already tricky map. It also has what I’d consider the worst boss of all the maps, a mad, zombified thieving scientist who would steal a weapon from each player before disappearing. What doesn’t sound great about that? Sadly, the map suffers from separation issues as the teleporters could make it indescribably difficult to get from one location to another, as well as trying to revive downed teammates. Green Run lacked playability due to the unusual difficulty, and this means it finishes bottom of the pack.įive starts promisingly, introducing caricatured versions of political figures to hilariously run about a defcon pentagon whilst gunning down hordes of the undead. The boss was also rather lacklustre, although the insertion of places like Nacht and the tunnel were quite cool. It was hard to navigate, made traversing the area without the bus an absolute chore, and the PaP required a lot of hoop jumping to get to (and it only opened it for a very small amount of time). The bus was a cool mechanic, but really Green Run felt like four or five smaller maps glued together by irritating, facehugger dwelling fog. Given they’ve never tried such a big scale ever again, I think it’s safe to say they realized their mistake. Green Run is a classic example of this being very tricky due to the fact the developers tried to upscale the size of the map.

Whilst staying very close by is never a good way to succeed in zombies, it is always safer, and more fun, to be able to pass one another by and reach your allies to revive them. The bottom four maps on my list all follow a trend: they all split the players up and make it hard to stick together.

Bear in mind this is my personal opinion, but feel free to disagree in the comments! Let’s begin… They’re manic, feverishly entertaining and containing more Easter Eggs than your local spring hunt, but that, after all, is part of the reason why we love them so dearly.Īnd of course, I’m going to rank all sixteen of them. It’s a long way back to the beginning, but now I think it’s time to check back in and compare the zombie maps from World at War and Black Ops 1 and 2. The map pack, a clever release by Activision, is sure to draw a lot of attention in terms of sales, but what we really care about is gorily putting down zombies with headshots and machetes until the early hours of the morning. With the recent announcement of the Zombie Chronicles DLC for Black Ops 3, there is a lot of excitement going around for a return of eight old zombies maps to our screens, this time boasting the firepower of current generation consoles and specifications.
